WHAT TO DO IN & AROUND PLAYA TAMARINDO


Sportfishing ~ Costa Rica has rich marine life and world class fishing all year round. You can catch Sailfish, Marlin, Roosterfish, Mahi Mahi, Yellow Fin Tuna, Grouper, Wahoo, Snapper & Amberjack, etc. To charter a large sport fishing boat it will cost $450 to $1250 per day with ½ day trips available. Smaller boats are also available for rent by the hour. We will be happy to provide you with fishing information, just ask. Lake Arenal is the place for fresh water 'Rainbow Bass.'

Bicycling ~ Hourly, daily or weekly rentals available. Mountain biking is very popular and a great way to see the small surrounding areas near Tamarindo. Scooter rentals are also available. Ask us.

Horseback Riding ~ Guides or tours can take you along the beach, down country roads, through pastures and on eco-natural and forest trails, Several companies offer riding in Tamarindo. Please check our Welcome Book for info.

Golf~ We have two world class golf courses within 20 minutes of our Villa.Hacienda Panilla and Playa Conchal golf courses offer the experienced and beginner the best golf.Clubs, carts and caddies are provided. Ask for the current rate sheets. Information available.

S.C.U.B.A. Diving ~ Our dive shop offers an excellent variety of dives and instruction. Boat dives, night dives and a resort course for the beginner is available. Check out the brochures for more details and costs. Tamarindo Diving

Snorkeling ~ 2 to 3 hour trips to Playa Conchal, Catalina Islands, or Isla El Capitan can be arranged with a local U.S. diver, dive shops or a sailboat tour. We can also give you directions for snorkeling in the area on your own. Equipment rentals are available at Tamarindo Adventures or Iguana Surf Shop.

Surfing ~ Tamarindo is a surfing destination. Great surfing is within walking distance from our Villa for a river mouth break on Playa Langosta. Also in the area are Playa Grande, Playa Avellana and Playa Negro. Short and long board rentals are available at Iguana Surf and Tamarindo Adventures, etc.

Kayaking~ Both ocean and estuary tours available. Paddle in the ocean or in a Mangrove estuary. Equipment rental available or Iguana Surf has tours. Check our tide chart on the refrigerator for approximate times.

Boogie Boards ~ Available for rent through Tamarindo Adventure & Iguana Surf.


Dancing ~ Many restaurants in the area offer live bands and dancing on the weekends and some week nights. Check our local calendar.

Fiestas ~ Local towns have fiestas each year usually November through April. You will find local food, games, an afternoon rodeo, horse parade on Sunday and dancing at night. See the calendar in our local newspapers for dates.







Santa Rosa National Park
~ This park is one of Costa Rica's most historically significant parks & protects the last large remaining tropical dry forest, grasslands & savannah woodland. See 115 species of mammals, 253 species of birds, 100 species of amphibians, 10,000 insects including 3,410 species of moths & butterflies. See literature and be sure to take water, a hat, binoculars and sunscreen.

Pottery Village ~ Guiatil is a short ½ day trip. Each potter displays his/her wares in front of their house.

Pottery is nice, some bargains & a great gift. Ask for map.

Language School ~ Spanish classes are taught daily for 2-4 hours in AM & PM. Home stays are available and you can register for a week or a month. Learn Spanish at the beach. Week-end trips can also be arranged.

Turtle Tours ~ Nesting season is from November through March when the Leatherback Turtle returns to the same beach where she hatched to lay her eggs. Please pay attention to your tour guide's instructions on your tour. Playa Tamarindo is very concerned about the decreased turtle population.

Corobici Raft Tours ~ Daily between 7:00am and 4:00pm. No need for you to paddle, the trained guide will row, just relax and enjoy. There is no whitewater. There are several places to swim, so remember your swimsuit, This is a birdwatcher's paradise. You will also see tropical forest, howler monkeys, 3 species of Iguana, Otters, Coatis and the harmless Cayman crocodiles.

Sailing ~ Tours available for sunset, ½ day or full day cruise. Includes food, drinks and snorkeling on a 52' Ketch.

ATV~Quad Tours ~ Discover the dry rain forest, jungle paths and the many beaches of Guanacaste on an ATV~Quad tour. Additional tours include snorkeling and jet ski fun available through Iguana Surf & Tamarindo Adventures.




Tamarindo Wildlife Refuge ~ Boat trip into large estuary, mangrove forest & tropical dry forest to observe rare & abundant wildlife - including dozens of bird species and three species of monkeys - while learning about the unique ecosystem of the mangrove forest. More information available.

Palo Verde National Park ~ Park protects the Tempisque River Basin where a series of seasonal marshes provide ideal conditions for an array of waterfowl. The main lagoon attracts the largest concentration of waterfowl & wadding birds in all Central America.
